I was hired by Lifeway to create cover and interior template layouts for a redesign of a women’s magazine titled Journey. Layouts from several designers were presented to management.
To update and refresh this magazine, I was inspired by beautiful soft photography found on women’s blogs and the current trend in strong typography, scripts and handwritten type. For the cover, I created several masthead options including an option with a more feminine and delicate feel. I provided a variety of stock images to illustrate a lighter/softer photography approach. For the interior, I designed a couple template layout options.
For the final layouts, they merged my cover layout idea with another designer’s and used my second interior layout template changing out the background with each issue.
